DISCOVER LEMBEH CRITTER CAPITAL

Location: Lembeh, Indonesia
Dates:      January 31-Feb 7, 2025 (arriving at least 1 day prior Jan 30 to Bali to fly to LEMBEH early am if doing Bali sister trip or directly to Manado if not doing the Bali sister trip to acclimate and ensure you and your bags arrive timely before transferring to resort)
Resort:    NAD Lembeh Resort
Dive operator: NAD
Water Temp: 80 - 82°F
Air Temp: 77 - 82 °F
Current: Slight to modest depending on the site
Visibility: 30 to 80 feet
Experience Level: Moderate. You'll need to be very comfortable with your buoyancy so you can get close enough to see the critters but not stir up the bottom when you are done and want to move away. You'll be diving beyond 60 ft and need to be able to control your breathing when seeing amazing things like frogfish, seahorses, octopuses, nudies, etc. We suggest AOW or equivalent or OW with 50+ dives in a good range of different diving conditions. NOTE: We are NOT offering our world famous 'Rent-A-Buddy or Rent-A-Mentor' program but we can hire a limited number of private guide to help you if your diving skills are not quite at the minimum requested. Email trips@singledivers.com to discuss if you can safely and comfortably enjoy these dives.  NOTE: The guides spend their time looking for critters for people to see and take pictures of...not to take care of divers. In fact the dive guide ratio is very low 1 guide to 2 divers so the guide can spend the most time possible looking for the next critter.

Accommodations:

DINING

Our supplies are purchased daily and all food is prepared freshly onsite. If you have special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance. We can accomodate almost anything, with enough notice. Dining at NAD is with a long table concept to get everyone talking, but if you prefer your own table just let us know. If you would like a meal for a special occasion this can also be arranged.

BAR

We now have a resort bar where you can enjoy a glass of wine, beer or cocktail whilst watching the sunset! Bar ingredients are all of international standard, along with fresh herbs from our greenhouse.

RESTAURANT

Our restaurant comfortably seats up to 40 people, although we never likely fill it. We serve most meals buffet style in the open air restaurant, rolling through various Asian dishes and then also adding in pasta, pizza, burgers and other items.

In August 2017, we opened our new bar as a great addition to the resort. The bar is equipped with lots of power sockets and a rather large widescreen TV, making this the perfect space to edit your pictures, watch presentations or enjoy a particular sporting event. Enjoy the beautiful sunset overlooking the Lembeh Strait together….playing pool with a cold beer, a glass of wine or delicious cocktail.

WIFI

We now have Starlink, which is fast and reliable.

ROOMS

All our rooms offer ocean view, air-conditioning, hot water, wifi, including full board.

Our resort has only few steps, which makes our layout extremely convenient to get from your room to the restaurant, camera room, bar and floating jetty.  Our stand-alone bungalows are located in a secluded portion of the resort, a short distance away from the main building.

With an impressive view over the bay, suitable for couples who want to spend their evenings sitting on a private deck with the best view in the Straits. All our bungalows feature an additional day room, suitable to be used as small office or for a child. Our beachfront rooms are directly by the beach and pool. Ideal for those who need to be slightly closer to the restaurant, bar and camera room. Twin as well as double beds are available. Adjacent rooms are perfect for groups traveling together.

Shampoo, Conditioner and body soap are provided.

OTHER

We now have a small pool and jacuzzi in the garden area, with lots of nice rattan furniture and comfortable cushions. The pool uses salt chlorination, so the water is always in nice condition and does not burn your eyes.

Adjacent to the pool area are some kayaks, free for our guests to use for an afternoon paddle around our bay.

Here's a quick list of what you can enjoy during your visit:

  • Modern Restaurant & Bar

Diving & Itinerary:

DIVING THE LEMBEH STRAIT – WELCOME TO THE CRITTER DIVE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

Diving the Lembeh Strait is something that all divers should try at least. These black sand bays and coral outcrops hold an outstanding amount of marine life. Especially if you are an underwater photographer, the Lembeh Strait should be on your “must visit list”. Likely multiple times!

Divers visiting Lembeh are likely to see a vast list of must-see critters. Frogfish, Rhinopias, a huge array of Nudibranchs and Octopus, the Blue-Ringed Octopus and Mimic Octopus, being a highlight. Lembeh is not just muck diving though! We explore all over the island and beyond to find some of the best reef diving in South East Asia.

BOATS

On the boat we have numbered towels, water, tea, coffee (just ask for a cool box if you want cold soft drinks), snacks, first aid kit, GPS, camera rinse tanks, emergency oxygen and a toilet.  And two of the best crew you can find! Inside our boats is NON-SMOKING. Smokers sit on the roof so please bring sun cream. We do not anchor on dive sites, and we do not carry anchors on our boats as standard.

EFR TRAINING

We train all our boat men and dive guides First Aid. They are refreshed once a year as standard, where we also bring in staff from other areas of the resort to join in the fun. We use SSI for our training materials and have two Resuscitation Dolls on site.

TIPS FOR DIVING IN LEMBEH

The Lembeh Strait is also famous for people carrying pointing sticks, pokey sticks, Lembeh sticks or whatever else you want to call them. In the right hands these are invaluable tools. Trained guides will coax unusual critters out of their hiding place for the divers to take photographs. It is imperative that the animals are put back to where they came from to avoid stress (and the running off). Animals that have been stressed will move, so it is difficult to find them again on your next dive! And people often want to revisit a site to get better pictures. Whichever operator you dive with and in any muck dive environment, please remind the guides to ensure the critters are well looked after!

PHOTOGRAPHIC ETIQUETTE

Photographic etiquette is also an important thing on muck dives. Often first timers are so over-whelmed that they end up taking 200 photos on a single dive. A better way would be to take less photos, but better quality ones. During your stay and if you feel you are ‘machine gunning’ the critters with your flash, please feel free to ask some of the staff/ management for advise on how to get some better shots. Excessive flashing has not been proven to kill critters, but it certainly cannot do them any good. With up to 9 boats a day hitting some of the Lembeh dive sites, for sure the fish get a headache! So remember: Stop, Look, Think, Shoot! No one needs 10+ photos of the same frogfish in the same position using the same settings :)

VIDEO “DIVING IN LEMBEH – TIPS & TECHNIQUES”

We’ve put together a little video with helpful tips and tricks to make diving in Lembeh even more enjoyable and fun for everyone!

DIVING IN LEMBEH – A FEW MORE TIPS
  • Black sand/ silt is very annoying for photography when it has been stirred up. So try to keep a head down, fins up position when moving around between the critters. Also, if you rest on the sand to shoot a photograph, please use your buoyancy to get yourself back up into the water column (breathing/ inflating BCD a little), rather than kicking.
  • Be nice to your buddies! If someone is taking a photo and you want to take a look, by all means go ahead. But don’t swim over the top and kick sand onto the subject (it sounds silly but you’d be surprised how often it happens!)
  • Photographic etiquette also includes sharing the critters found by your guides. If you think you want to spend a long time with a subject, maybe take a few snaps so you have a record of the critter. Then let everyone else take some pictures, and return to finish off your set. This can be difficult if the animal is at depth! Feel free to discuss your requirements with the management or your guide in order to get the best experience you can.
  • A grey area – what if you found the critter and not your guide? Finder’s keepers? We’ll leave that one for you to discuss on the boat with your fellow divers!
  • There have been occasions when guides from another boat have been a bit naughty. They encouraged a diver to leave his current critter and catch up with the rest of his group. We do not believe in this practice and encourage you to hold your ground until you are finished (without hogging of course!). If you are reading this and are thinking “Hey, a guide from NAD did that to me!”, then please contact us.
  • Non-photographers like to see things too! Please give non-photographers some time with the critters before taking photos. They have a short attention span and swim off to the next critter quite quickly. Non-photographers are the strangest critters in Lembeh, they just swim around and enjoy watching the fish…
  • Lembeh has some beautiful coral formations and algae/ marine plants. Please encourage your guides to behave responsibly round them. Also mind your fins when in these areas. Even boring algae serves a purpose on the top of the sand, it’s a place for newly settled frogfish to hide!
  • DO NOT use gloves! This is a company rule at NAD. Divers wearing gloves are a lot less careful about touching – whether it’s the sand, corals or even critters. Remember that Scorpionfish and other venomous marine life can even sting through the glove! So better: gloves off, no touching at all.

Diving and underwater photography is a really great way to meet new friends. These points above are not rules, just recommendations to help you get the best out of your holiday, both socially and photographically.

We suggest AOW or equivalent or OW with 50+ dives in a good range of different diving conditions. NOTE: The rent a buddy program IS NOT AVAILABLE on this trip. All new divers MUST check with trips@singledivers.com prior to this trip to ensure its a great fit for you.
  • Certification in Paradise - Ask us about different certifications available on this trip. Its always nice to get certified in Paradise. Let us help you do this!  Its always nice to get certified in Paradise. Let us help you do this!  Email trips@singledivers.com for more information.

PRICES: Prices for classes in Paradise are always more expensive than doing them at home. Sometimes SingleDivers.com has instructors on our trips who are happy to teach AND usually offer a member discount to anyone interested in taking a class. The more that take a class the more feasible a discount becomes .

HOW TO PAY:

  • As you sign up for a trip you will add either the trip deposit amount or the full trip price to the shopping cart. You can also add any extras you wish to purchase but you will have to pay for them whenever you sign up for them. So if you are not ready to pay for nitrox now but want us to know you will be adding it to your order...please use the comment box to let us know ultimately what you are signing up for and any other special concerns you have or information you want us to know. Just understand we will not show you listed as doing something until it is paid for.
  • When you are ready to pay for the extras you want you will click on the BOOK NOW button for the trip you are on and select the add-on(s) that you wish to pay for, add them to your cart and then check out. Depending on the trip you may need to click on the purple TAKE ME TO THE ADD-ON'S BOX. You will then either pay via e-check or credit card depending on whether you want a discount for cash or prefer the convenience of payment over time.
  • When its time to make a progress payment you will click on MY TRIPS under TRIPS on the main menu. You will see "Make a Payment" under PAYMENTS in the upper right. Then choose what you are paying for and complete your payment.
  • After each order you place with us you will receive an email order and payment confirmation. If you do not receive these TWO email confirmations (one showing the order at full price and one showing what was debited from your account including the cash discount) check in MY PAYMENTS to see if the payment was successful. If you do not see the payment in your My Trips then MAKE THE PAYMENT AGAIN. You will always get an order confirmation email every time you attempt an email but you will ONLY get a Payment Confirmation email when your payment was successful. If you need assistance please email .
  • The MY PAYMENTS section is located under the PAYMENTS option found in the upper right of the MY TRIPS area of our site which is found under the TRIPS tab in the main menu.

IN GENERAL:

  • Only payments received via our secure online payment gateway/portal will be accepted and will qualify for early payment discounts. (So check before you book for any discounts you may qualify for as they can not be applied after booking.)
  • If you are unable to use the gateway please provide a complete description of the problem/error you are encountering INCLUDING A SCREEN CAPTURE of the error in an email to trips@singledivers.com.
  • If International/ Non-US Clients and your credit card payment does not work, either use AA as the state and 12345 as the zip or please use our traditional written credit authorization form to submit your credit card payment. To receive this form send an email to trips@singledivers.com.

Insurance, Documentation & T&C's:

INSURANCE

DIVE Insurance is required on all trips - GET THE DELUXE POLICY! DIVE insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers DIVING ACCIDENTS and air lifts…it is CHEAP (approx $100-$125) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for an entire year of diving.

PRO TIP; The two primary suppliers of dive insurance DiveAssure.com and DAN are inexpensive enough to carry both. This way you will have the best coverage internationally, the best coverage domestically, primary insurance, secondary insurance and if a claim is denied on one policy you can submit it on the other. No matter what happens...YOU ARE COVERED!!! ... PRICELESS!!!

We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance providing PRIMARY COVERAGE with excellent rates and coverage! Please use THIS LINK and/or reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative. OR SIMPLY USE THIS LINK AND YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY TIED TO US. )

Alternatively you can also use....
Diver's Alert Network: Please use our reference number when ordering: ID1603080   (This only works if you are a new first time DAN member.)

Trip Insurance is REQUIRED on this trip! TRIP insurance is peace of mind that you will not lose your entire trip costs when things are 'normal' and life interferes. Cheaper policies usually only cover 'medical' so ensure that your policy has adequate coverage for the price of your trip. If getting CFAR coverage aka 'CANCEL FOR ANY REASON' you must get it within 24 hrs of signing up for a trip.  If you opt to not get trip insurance you are responsible for all losses related to your trip including not going for any reason. If diving a LIVEABOARD please consider the liveaboard rider offer by DiveAssure.com.

We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip OR just Trip Insurance providing PRIMARY COVERAGE with excellent rates and coverage! Please use THIS LINK and/or reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative. OR SIMPLY USE THIS LINK AND YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY TIED TO US. )

DOCUMENTATION

All SingleDivers.com trips require necessary documentation to facilitate booking your trip and/or making it a better experience for you.  Once you complete your documents online our automated system will take the information from your last trip with us and fill out your new trip forms for you. You then add any missing information and/or change anything that is no longer current. You will find the forms you need to complete under MY TRIPS which you will find under TRIPS in the main menu across the top of the site. Since each trip requires a unique set of docs, please choose the correct trip from your "My Trips" drop down and then complete the forms required for that trip. Some trips will also ask you to complete the resort or liveaboard's forms as well.

The AIR AUTHORIZATION FORM is only required when you are having SingleDivers.com book air for you but this includes air that is part of the trip pkg price.

Not all of our forms are online as they are either infrequently used or being phased out. If you need a form that is not in our online directory, send an email to trips@singledivers.com and ask for the form you need.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

All SingleDivers.com trips require:

  • You complete the necessary documentation as referenced above for each trip you sign up to take with us. A $75 document fee will be applied if you fail to submit your online and uploaded documents withing 21 days* of signing up for a trip or within 3 days if signing up within 45 days of departure. NOTE THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO AIRFARE UNLESS SIGNING UP WITHIN 45 DAYS OF DEPARTURE.  *Remember the Forms can be edited at any time up to 30 days prior to departure with updates such as insurance purchase/renewal, change of address, even preferences for rooming and diving so there is no reason to delay your initial Forms submissions.  This enables us to meet the reporting deadlines imposed by our suppliers.
  • SingleDivers.com LLC reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
  • You read all the trip details before booking and commit to being responsible for 'post trip booking follow up' via use of our TRIP PM, FORUM DISCUSSIONS  and in some cases emails. You commit to ask us how to use these tools if uncertain and commit to keeping your premier membership dues current and email on file current so we can contact you. Our tools require your dues and email to be current to work. They also require that you log into the PM system from time to time as the emailed courtesy copies are not reliable nor do they transmit pictures or embedded documents.  Any delays/expenses/issues due to lack of trip information will be borne by the trip goer and NOT SingleDivers.com as we regularly and routinely use these tools to communicate extensively with you. If you are not hearing from us it means you are not using the tools we have in place or are experiencing technical issues so YOU MUST. Email trips@singledivers.com for help.
  • You have read the EXPERIENCE REQUIRED & TRAINING/WORKSHOPS information in the online trip details to ensure that you are able to safely and comfortably meet the requirements of the trip. Please contact to further discuss any questions you have about attending one of our trips. We often accept students who would not otherwise meet the stated trip requirements because they are taking a class that will then enable them to meet the trip specifications and they will be diving with an instructor or dive master during the dives.
  • We require Dive Insurance for all dives and trips. Please see the online trip details under INSURANCE for more information.
  • We NOW require Trip Insurance due to post covid travel instability. We now have you make an 'Insurance Declaration' during the booking process allowing you to tell us if you have insurance already that covers this trip, or you will buy insurance to cover this trip or you will 'self insure' accepting all risks including loss of all monies paid and you will hold Kamala Shadduck, and SingleDivers.com's associates, partners, suppliers, volunteers and/or employees  harmless.
  • In the event of cancellation, your trip insurance will be your first line of defense. Secondary remedies include some rights afforded to you based upon when you have to cancel your trip in writing. Please see THIS link for full additional trip cancellation details.
  • Please read THIS link for our Guaranteed Double Occupancy Policy, Rooming Policies, Payment Terms, the "Ex" Rule etc
